Today is Friday and I haven’t participated in a Five-Minute Friday (FMF) for many moons, but today I decided to give it a go. FMF is five minutes of free writing on a particular prompt. It is also a community of people who do this together, so I’ll link up with Kate and the others. Today’s prompt is work. I set my timer for 5 minutes, I won’t go back and edit a thing, what came out of the fingertips is right here. Have a great day!
There’s been a lot of that going on in my life, well, for most of it.
We’re smack in the middle of harvest so the days are long and hot and dry…and smoky.
In the last few months I’ve done a lot of different sorts of work:
– my son’s wedding
-speaking at camp
- family vacation (yes that counts as work)
- moving kids out on their own
- moving our family back to the farm
- settling in
- getting ready for school
- re-entering community
So many different ways to work besides bringing in an income. That is one form of work that I’m NOT doing right now which feels a little weird. I’ve often had an outside job to bring in a little cash.
I don’t have a big ministry assignment either. I’m just filling in a slot in the schedule. That also feels strange.
The work I feel called to right now is here in my four walls. Keeping house and hearth. And becoming more of a maker.
This is a word that the Lord whispered to me in the midst of my anxiety over provision and what I should DO!
I am a DOER.
He said, “It would be okay for you to be a maker, and that’s all.”
So, I’m going to sit with that. I love to make things, all kinds of things:
- teaching words
And that’s my 5 minutes. We’ll see how this story goes…
