Weekend Reading: Reviews

I love getting books in the mail! My first mail addressed to me at the new (old) house was an envelope from Graf-Martin Communications with two books to review. Gotta love that!

First up, Holley Gerth’s newest offering, What Your Heart Needs for the Hard Days

I love the cover don’t you, who doesn’t love a cute polka dot cup?

It is inside the cover that you’ll find the good stuff though! In classic Holley style she serves up encouragement, wisdom and hope with a warm hug thrown in for good measure. There are 52 encouraging truths to hold on to when things just aren’t going your way.

Holley has struggled with many hard things and has stood by and held hands with so many while they have gone through hard things. She knows what she is talking about. Her words ring true and they are all straight out of the Word which is the truth.

What Your Heart Needs for the Hard Days could be used as a weekly or daily devotional. Each chapter stands by itself so you can go wherever you need if that’s how you wanted to use this sweet piece of encouragement. There is room to write your responses to the words of wisdom both from Holley and from the chapters out of the Psalms that accompany each writing prompt.

You won’t be sorry to add this comforting companion to your bedside table.

Next – Tried & True by Mary Connealy

This is the first book in a new series by author Mary Connealy.

I have to admit that romances set in the old west are not my go-to reading material. Tried & True tells the story of the Wilde sisters. Not your ordinary sibling group. They dressed up as men to take part in the war and are now carrying on the disguise to homestead the West in the post-war land rush.

Kylie has had enough of the pretending and is content to let the world know that she is a woman even if it means losing her war exemption and incurring the wrath of her crusty dad. It isn’t much of a loss if she gets Aaron Masterson as a pay-off, even if his plans are nothing like what she has in mind.

The sisters realize that they aren’t really fooling anyone soon enough and each of the girls will have her share of the spotlight in the books to come.

Tried & True is an enjoyable, though predictable book if you are in the mood for romance in the old west.
